  • Trump is looking eagerly and angrily at the Jan. 6 hearings, The Washington Post reported.

  • The outlet said Trump feels the GOP is doing too little to defend him.

  • He would mainly blame the GOP leaders, who sidelined themselves by boycotting the commission.

Former President Donald Trump resents the Jan. 6 committee hearings, outraged that he thinks no one is defending him, according to The Washington Post

Trump is “about to yell at the TV” as he tunes into every hearing, an unnamed close adviser told the paper.

Another in his circle, also unnamed, told the paper that Trump constantly complains that “there is no one to defend me” during the hearings, which have received a tremendous amount of media attention.

Trump’s advisers also spoke of the frustration of having no insight into the commission’s processes and not being informed in advance of what is to come.

There are two Republicans on the panel — Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger — but both represent the anti-Trump wing of the party and have openly criticized him.

According to The Post, Trump’s anger centers on House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy, who… boycotted the commission when it was foundedpass up the opportunity to put pro-Trump figures on the panel.

Trump also made that argument publicly this week, called it a mistake, though he stopped to attack McCarthy directly for it.

In recent days, McCarthy has been encouraging Republicans not to talk about the committee at all, the Post reported.

He has adopted the tactic of averting questions about the committee’s findings, in an effort to shift the subject to high inflation and record gas prices, which GOP President Joe Biden blames.

McCarthy’s approach is very different from that of Trump, who wants a vocal counterattack. on June 16, he demanded a TV platform to make his own claims about the elections long after they have been debunked.

He wrote on his social media network Truth Social: “I hereby demand EQUAL TIME to spell the massive Voter Fraud & Dem Security Breach!”

Trump is known as an avid watcher of TV news, looking for cues about how his press conferences and speeches are perceived. During his presidency, reportedly watched about seven hours of TV a daywho spends his whole morning there.

A Trump spokesperson did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
